QUEST Lecture
QUEST is not only commited to perform top level research, but also to improve teaching at Leibniz Universität Hannover. From summer semester 2009 on, QUEST-members will regularly give special courses on QUEST topics. Please find also detailed information about earlier lectures in our archiv …
The QUEST lecture 2010 will be on:
Research in QUEST: From String Theory to Geodesy
![]() |
The course is dedicated to PhD-students, stipendiaries and master-students. The lecture starts with three units covering general aspects of the string theory given by Prof Dr Olaf Lechtenfeld.
The following two units deal with optical clocks and quantum sensors. The lectures will give some theoretical background in frequency measurements and discuss the physics, challenges and future prospects of both neutral atom and ion clocks. These units will be given by Dr Tanja Mehlstäuber.
Within the next units, quantum degerated atoms and spinor BECs as well as non-classical states of matter will be discussed by Dr Carsten Klempt.
Prof Dr Jürgen Müller will explain the role of relativity in space geodesy and gravitational physics tests using Lunar Laser Ranging, within the next two units.
The lecture closes with three units given by Dr Stefan Pfalz, who will provide an introduction to the most important basics in solid state physics, modern concepts in semiconductor physics and spintronics.
The lecture starts on April, 14th 2010 and will take place at main building of Leibniz Universität (Welfengarten 1), Institute of Quantum Optics, Room D326. For a detailed time schedule, please refer to this announcement.
